Roberta Gibb was ran the Boston Marathon and was the first woman to complete it, however it was unofficial since women weren't actually allowed to participate until 1972. This shows that women didn't let rules restrict them from living their lives. Women finally get the official nod to play five-player, full-court basketball.
In 1971, the full-court 30 second shot clock became official for basketball in general. However, that same year, the AIAW (Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) was formed which gave women the opportunity to compete in an official 5-player, full-court basketball match, and also compete in National Championships. Doris Haddock was a political activist who began in 1960 when she campaigned against hydrogen bomb nuclear testing with her husband. On January 1st, 1999, after the Rose Bowl Parade, Doris Haddock, who renamed her middle name to 'Granny D', began walking across the united States to try to gain awareness to campaign finance reform. She made many speeches along the way, and when she arrived in Washington D.C., many members of Congress walked alongside her for her final miles. Misty Copeland becomes the first black female principal ballet dancer.
