Women are not payed as much as men in sports, even if they win more games or get more attention. In 2013, the highest paid athlete was Tiger Woods, making $78 million dollars. In comparison, the highest paid female athlete was Maria Sharapova, who made $29 million dollars.
In 1792, there were 30,000 women compared to 170,000 men playing in collegiate level sports. On top of that, the NCAA did not give out any scholarships to women, nor did they hold any finals or championships for women's sports. The number of woman playing college level sports has increased five times the original number, however they are still not receiving the necessities for these sports as well as men are, even if it is the same sport.
Gender inequality still exists in High School Sports today, and many of the team sports are male-dominated. However, Title IX was made in 1972, and it stated that any institution for education that was receiving federal funding must give equal resources to both males and females, whether it be for educational purposes or for athletic purposes. These institutions began to follow these rules, for they didn't want their funding to be cut, however people have begun saying that these rules put male athletes at a disadvantage. There are many arguments about this subject, but even if women fight just to have equal resources as men, the men still want more.
Most of the coaching for sports nowadays consists of males, even if it is a female sport. As a matter of fact, the amount of female basketball coaches today is much less than the amount of female basketball coaches from a decade ago. In Division 1 sports, there is an average of 41.4% of coaches for these sports are women, and this number is gradually getting smaller.
Women's clothing is statistically proven to be more expensive than men's, and on top of that, to get something dry-cleaned for a woman costs more than it does for a man. The nike store currently released some brand new soccer cleats called the "Nike Hypervenom Phantom II FG iD" cleats. For men, these cost $199, but for women these cost $375. In kids sized, they also sell the same shoe. For boys, it costs $55, but for girls it costs $110. It has the same color options, and it is the same shoe, but for some reason the price for women's is extremely higher than the mens. Women are also getting payed less in sports, so why should they be getting less money, but then have to pay more for gear?
